Fenbrook Academy has a long and illustrious history of producing the very best actors for theater, TV and movies. Students are taught by a wide range of acting coaches, many of whom have had (and in some cases still enjoy) a successful acting career themselves. Central to the course is our program of “returning actors”, in which alumni of the academy are encouraged to return and give a short series of classes themselves. This is a chance for students to work with real Hollywood stars while they rest between movies, or be trained by a TV star between seasons, and many students consider it the highlight of their time at Fenbrook. Many actors cross-train by picking a voice course from the music department. As well as developing singing talent–a valuable asset for any actor–our voice coaches can help students work on projection, accents and dialects.

Fenbrook’s reputation means that our students are often invited to auditions that few others can access. Casting directors know that Fenbrook students have both the talent and the practical skills to shine in any production and in some cases agents make the trip from LA to New York just to visit Fenbrook and see the new faces.

All acting classes take place on the first floor, where the main hall has enough space to put on a full-size show and several smaller rooms allow for smaller teaching groups. As well as the core acting classes, students can opt for courses on stunt work and fight choreography (with martial arts classes in co-operation with a local academy), presentation and news reporting, and we allow time for extra-curricular research such as ridealongs with the NYPD, hospital placements and the shadowing of suitable figures in the corporate world. We believe that these experiences allow students auditioning for roles in TV dramas to bring an extra degree of realism to their cop, doctor or stock trader, and the casting directors who keep hiring our students agree.
