Ballerina stretching at the barre

All of our students train hard, but dance is by far the most physically demanding of our core disciplines. That’s why at Fenbrook, we ensure our dancers are taught by the very best and supported by an on-staff physician to minimize the chance of injury.

We offer classes in both classic and modern ballet, modern, jazz, tap and have recently begun a community outreach program that aims to bring our students together with the best of the city’s street dancers.

At Fenbrook we believe in long, rewarding careers for all our graduates. That’s why we encourage our students to learn a variety of styles and cross-train in acting or music to ensure the widest possible range of opportunities is open to them.

They work us really hard – but that’s what it takes. You think it’s going to be any easier on stage? – Clarissa, dance student

Our dance graduates are recognized as some of the best in the world, and have found success in professional dance companies, on Broadway and in a wide range of movies, TV shows and commercials. Our teachers are all former professional dancers, many of them veterans of the country’s leading ballet companies. The third floor of the academy is dedicated to dance and features four large dance studios featuring sprung floors, mirrored walls and large windows to create a bright, airy environment. Locker rooms and showers are available right on the third floor, while the basement cafeteria gives all students a chance to mingle.

Dance students at Fenbrook start their day early with a warm up at the barre, followed by center floor work. This leaves the afternoons free for auditions, rehearsals and specialist classes. Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing (leotard and tights, pointe shoes for ballet). For certain classes tank tops and t-shirts are acceptable. You can buy suitable clothing at the academy or in our online store.
